2020/03/10 News release

Due to the increased spread of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), the Japan Sewing Machinery Manufactures Association (JASMA) has announced the postponement of JIAM 2020 OSAKA until 2022 or later after intensive consultations. Further information regarding new event dates and exhibitor policy will be announced soon after details have been confirmed. JIAM 2020 OSAKA, which was originally scheduled to take place from 20 – 23 May 2020 at INTEX OSAKA, is the leading trade fair for apparel machinery and the textile industry.

In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, on 26th February Prime Minister Shinzo Abe called for large scale sports and cultural events be postponed or cancelled for a two-week period. Commenting on the postponement of JIAM, Mr Shigemi Mima, Chairman of the JIAM 2020 Executive Committee said: “Although JIAM 2020 OSAKA does not fall within the Prime Minister’s restrictions, we have nonetheless come to a difficult decision to postpone the show after serious discussions among the committee. As the prospects to curtail the new coronavirus are uncertain, we have prioritised the health and safety of our participants.”
